The Ministry of Public Works of Chile
The ministry is responsible for about 40% of the country’s public investment, covering airports, roads, bridges, and port infrastructure, in addition to hospitals, prisons, highways, and cable cars, which are developed through a system of public and private alliances. The Ministry of Public Works also manages and supervises the water supply in the country and the infrastructure to prevent natural disasters.
The Ministry of Public Works has a portfolio of nearly 3,000 annual projects throughout the country, for nearly USD 4 billion (JPY 600 billion). Added to this is a portfolio of more than USD 10 billion (JPY 1.5 trillion) for public-private alliance projects (PPP), which will be carried out in the coming years, including a train between Santiago and Valparaíso, cable cars in different cities of the country, and a high-standard upgrading of Route 5, the main highway that runs through Chile from north to south.
