＜概要／Summary＞
Japan is an important player in the deep seabed mining sector which will have an increasingly significant impact on the global resources and commodities markets of the future. This seminar will focus on the draft exploitation regulations and accompanying standards and guidelines prepared by the International Seabed Authority including an update on recent developments such as Nauru’s announcement that it intends to submit an application for a plan of work for exploitation in two years. A representative from the Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority will join as a guest speaker on this topic. Clifford Chance lawyers who have specialist expertise in this area will also cover practical considerations for Japanese investors in this sector, including structuring investments to take advantage of reserved areas. There will then be a panel discussion focusing on some of the key risks and opportunities presented by deep seabed mining. Participants will also have the opportunity to put questions to the panel.
